Triad National Security's NNSA contract grew by about $37.4 million in late-June funding actions

FMG Newsroom

BLUF: Triad National Security, LLC's contract to manage Los Alamos National Laboratory has reached $35,040,435,873.75 in total obligations after two June 29, 2026 funding actions.

The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), part of the Department of Energy (DOE), obligated an additional $37,444,104.16 to contract 89233218CNA000001 on June 29, 2026, split across two funding-only modifications (No. P00250, $24,973,949.18, and No. P00251, $12,470,154.98), according to transaction records on USAspending.gov. The contract funds Triad's continued management and operation of Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico.

Why it matters: Los Alamos is one of NNSA's three principal nuclear weapons design laboratories, and its M&O contract is among the largest cost-reimbursement vehicles in the federal government. Recurring funding modifications of this size indicate steady program obligations flowing to the prime and, in turn, to the subcontractor and supplier base supporting lab operations.

By the numbers:

  • Total obligations to date: $35,040,435,873.75
  • Latest funding actions: $37,444,104.16 (June 29, 2026, mods P00250 and P00251)
  • Contract number: 89233218CNA000001
  • Original award date: June 8, 2018
  • Period of performance: June 8, 2018 – October 31, 2028 (potential end date)
  • NAICS: 561210 (Facilities Support Services); PSC: M1JZ (Operation of Miscellaneous Buildings)

The contract was awarded through full and open competition via negotiated proposal, drawing four offers, and is structured as a cost-plus-award-fee definitive contract. NNSA's M&O Contracting office administers the award.
