DEA Proposes to Update Aviation Division Records System Under Privacy Act
Agency renames and revises system of records covering aviation reporting data
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), a component of the Department of Justice, has issued a notice proposing to modify and republish a system of records previously titled "JUSTICE/DEA-021, DEA Aviation Unit Reporting System." The system will be retitled the "DEA Aviation Division Reporting System" and serves as the repository for reporting records maintained by DEA's Aviation Division.
According to the notice, published pursuant to the Privacy Act of 1974 and OMB Circular No. A-108, DEA proposes to update the categories of individuals covered by the system, the categories of records maintained, the purpose of the system, the routine uses under which records may be disclosed, and the agency's policies and practices for storing, retrieving, retaining, and disposing of records.
While this notice is primarily an administrative and privacy-compliance action rather than a procurement announcement, contractors supporting DEA aviation operations, data management, or records systems should take note. Updates to routine uses and retention practices can affect how data is shared with or accessed by support contractors, and changes to record categories may signal shifts in operational reporting requirements relevant to firms providing aviation support services to DEA.
